The SPAI algorithm also known as the method of sparse approximate inverses is a flexible state of the art tool for matrix preconditioning implemented in C. In the last years the research has been directed mostly towards optimization. In this diploma thesis we profile the code, making full factor analysis of the data and identify a few possibilities for further optimization.
