I am pleased to present the first  issue of Volume 1 of Selçuk Journal of Applied Mathematics (SJAM).

     It is a multidisciplinary, research-oriented journal fostering various research results in the field of Scientific Computing, Mathematical Modelling, Numerical Analysis, Engineering, etc., and of course Mathematics itself. It is well-known that Industrial Mathematics and Applied Mathematics are essential tools in modern technology and commerce. They play an important role in pilot studies, process modelling, product design and manufacture, and plant operation and are concerned as often with safety and environmental considerations as with performance criteria. Advanced computation and simulation in science and engineering constitute an important  area in rapid growth in many leading industrial nations. The background for this is the continuing development of efficient computer hardware that has been seen over the past few decades. During recent years, the rapid progress in computer technology has prompt the scientists in the different countries to improve new technological research and methodologies to be utilized for the works in the field of science and technology.

        The importance of Industrial Mathematics and Applied Mathematics has been realized and a variety of research programs in this field have been initiated and funded in many countries. In 1994 we had also organized the Research Center of Applied Mathematics at Selçuk University, Konya, Turkey; and in 2000 we begin to publish Selçuk Journal of Applied Mathematics.

        I do hope that SJAM will be useful for the scientists in all over the world.
