Background
- Doctoral candidate, TUM Graduate School - CeDoSIA
- Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at TUM SCCS since April 2018
- M.Sc. in Computational Science and Engineering, Technical University of Munich, 2017
- Diploma in Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, 2014
- From Heraklion, Crete, Greece
Note: I frequently use the easier (but unofficial) form of my name "Gerasimos" → "Gerasimakis" → "Makis".
Research interests
- Multi-physics, black-box coupling
- Geometric multi-scale modeling (1D-3D, 2D-3D coupling)
- Fluid-fluid, multi-model coupling
- Fluid-structure interaction (FSI)
- Conjugate heat transfer (CHT)
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Research software engineering, software sustainability
Projects
- Doctoral project titled "Flexible Algorithms and Software for Complex Geometric Multi-Scale Coupling" (2018 - today)
- Project ATHLET-preCICE, together with GRS (6/2019 - today)
- Co-developer of preCICE, a free/open-source solver coupling library for multi-physics simulations with long history and users in several countries. As this project grows and targets users outside our research group, I am also interested in good software engineering practices, as part of the project preDOM. (2017 - today)
Other activities
- Organization of the preCICE Workshop 2020
- Organizational support for KONWIHR (9/2018 - today)
- Organization of the SCCS Colloquium (1/2019 - today)
- Registered first aider / first responder for SCCS (7/2019 - today)
Student Projects
If you are interested in a student project (Bachelor's or Master's Thesis or anything else), please contact me directly. I am mostly working with preCICE, for which you can also see the page Student Projects with preCICE. See also the pages of my colleagues Benjamin Rüth, Frédéric Simonis, and Benjamin Uekermann, as well as the Student Projects at our chair.
Do you want to know what other students are working on in our chair? You are warmly encouraged to attend their presentations at the SCCS Colloquium! Come to get ideas, meet your potential supervisor, or to learn from the style of others for your own presentation.

Running student projects
- Qunsheng Huang is doing his Master's Thesis for M.Sc. CSE. A preliminary title of his thesis is "Helicopter Fluid-Structure Coupling using preCICE". This work is in collaboration with the TUM Chair of Helicopter Technolog.
- Ayman Noureldin is doing his Master's Thesis for M.Sc. CSE. A preliminary title of his thesis is "A Master-Slave Approach for Multi-Phase Fluid-Fluid Coupling of OpenFOAM and ATHLET". This work is in collaboration with the GRS institute in Garching.
- Dmytro Sashko is a student assistant for the preDOM project. He is further developing the web-based preCICE tutorial and he is working on testing, packaging, and distributing preCICE.
- David Schneider is a student assistant for the preDOM project. He is developing features of the OpenFOAM adapter for preCICE, he is developing the deal-ii adapter for preCICE, and he is setting up tutorial simulation cases for preCICE.
- Michel Takken is a student assistant for the preDOM project. He is further developing the Code_Aster adapter for preCICE and he is setting up tutorial simulation cases for preCICE.
- Konrad Eder is a student assistant for the ATHLET-preCICE project. He is assisting in the development of the ATHLET adapter for preCICE, in bringing preCICE to Windows, and in testing preCICE.
