Jurek Olden: Performance Analysis of SWE Implementations based on modern parallel Runtime Systems

This is a Bachelor's thesis submission talk advised by Alexander Pöppl and Philipp Samfass.

For parallel runtime systems, it is highly desireable to promote the overlap of communication and computation to evenly distribute load and to aid programmers in designing applications which exploit the given hardware as best as possible. This talk will present the different notions and paradigms used by the parallel runtime systems UPC++, Charm++ and AMPI in order to achieve these goals. The Shallow Water Equations model and the discretization and update scheme will be briefly introduced, followed by a presentation of how the different frameworks implement the needed communication. Finally, performance benchmarks of each implementation will be presented and elaborated on.

Mohammed Asif Chand: Estimation of truck's position parameter using Deep Learning-Computer Vision

This is an external Master's thesis submission talk advised by Thomas Huckle, Sebastian Kutter and Hans-Joachim Bungartz.

A novel method to estimate the positional parameters (hitch angle) of the vehicle truck trailer is developed. The vehicle trailer angular position relative to tractor unit compliments the autonomous driving of the truck. The most challenging part of thesis was development of necessary labelled dataset in real time directly from the vehicle CAN system and camera and then porting the prediction model of custom developed Deep learning architecture to an automotive embedded which has several on board GPU's supporting distributed computing and task sharing.
