Johann Maier: Parallel-In-Time Methods for PDEs
Many real-world phenomena are described using partial differential equations and numerous methods have already been developed in order to allow viable computation. Technological progress suggests to parallelize existing algorithms for the purpose of optimal exploitation of computational power and acceleration of simulations. Besides the well established domain decomposition methods, the parallelization in time has become interesting as well. Therefore, we investigated a time-parallel method, the so called parareal algorithm. We present its most important properties and show results regarding convergence, achievable speedup and parallel efficiency.
