Alexandra Seibicke: Quantifying the effect of uncertain material parameters on seismic simulations
Bachelor's thesis submission talk. Alexandra is advised by Anne Reinarz.
This thesis uses the software engine ExaSeis (ExaHyPE-Seismic) for simulation of earthquakes. It is based on the PDE Engine ExaHyPE which offers ingredients to solve hyperbolic systems of Partial Differential Equations. We run simulations with different uncertain material parameters. We vary the Lamé parameters and achieve a uncertainty with Monte Carlo methods. Later on, we conclude and evaluate the impact of material parameters on the simulation and give an insight on the importance of the Lamé parameters on earthquakes.
