Otto Blumenthal


Otto Blumenthal (* June 6th 1876 in Frankfurt, † November 12th 1944 KZ Theresienstadt) Mathematics Professor in Aachen.


Life

As Son of a Doctor he studied in Göttingen. There he focused in mathematics and exact sciences. He became Professor in Aachen 1905. In May 1933 he was put on leave by the Ministry of Education because he was jewish. Shortly after that he was fired.

Although Blumenthal converted to protestantism he was handled as "Whole Jew". His sacking wasn't justified with racial reasons, it was because of his Membership in pazifistic Groups.

1939 his wife and he fled to the Netherlands, but 1940 the Netherlands were invased by Germany. His wife was brought to interment camp Westerbork, there she died in May 1943. Otto died in the hospital of KZ Thereseinstadt at the 12th of November 1944.
