Gustav Herglotz


 (* February 2nd 1881, † March 22nd 1953 Göttingen)

German mathematician. He is best known for his works in seismology.


Life

Herglotz started at the Vienna University, but soon moved to the University of Munich, where he became a student of Ludwig Boltzmann. He later completed his habilitation thesis at the University of Göttingen with Felix Klein. He then worked at the University of Leipzig. Emil Artin was among his students.
