Welcome

Following the highly successful workshops on Sparse Grids and Applications: 2011 in Bonn, Germany, 2012 in Munich, Germany, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany, and 2016 in Miami, USA, the 5th workshop on Sparse Grids and Applications will take place July 23-27, 2018 in Munich again. The workshop will be held at the Institute for Advanced Study of the Technical University of Munich.

Sparse grids have gained increasing interest in recent years for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Where classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids allow to overcome the curse of dimensionality to some extent - extending the number of dimensions that can be dealt with.

The aim is to bring together researchers and practitioners using sparse grids and their variants. Both theoretical and practical aspects are highly welcome. Topics of sparse grids and their applications include
  • spatially/dimensionally adaptive refinement
  • complexities and error bounds
  • wavelets
  • higher-order methods
  • data mining (classification, regression, clustering, ...)
  • density estimation
  • (stochastic) partial differential equations
  • interpolation and approximation
  • computational finance
  • parameter scans
  • integral equations
  • quadrature
  • dimensionality reduction
  • efficient numerical implementations
  • data structures
  • sparse grid software
  • applications using sparse grids
but are not limited to them.

Tools for sparse grids session

At SGA2018, for the first time, we offer research groups and developers the possibility to present software and tools for sparse grids in a dedicated session of the conference. All developers of sparse grid tools are encouraged to apply by submitting an abstract describing their code. Please use the easy chair abstract submission if you want to present your code. In this case add the information that you want to participate in the software tools session.

Invited speaker

As the SGA2018 is approaching, we are happy to announce the list of invited speakers: John Jakeman, Lee Ricketson, Grzegorz Wasilkowski and Simon Scheidegger.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Munich!
