Berwald was under the first Scientist who where forbidden to work after the German occupation. | |||
1941 he was deported with his wife Hedwig Adler to the concentration camp Lodz. | |||

He was an Austrian Mathematics with german-bohemian roots.
Life
After he graduated school he studied in Munich maths and promoted under Aurel Voss. He returned to Prague and habilitaded 1919 at the German University Prague. 1922 he became Professor of Mathematics, he mainly worked on differential geometry and geometry variationcalculations.
Berwald was under the first Scientist who where forbidden to work after the German occupation. 1941 he was deported with his wife Hedwig Adler to the concentration camp Lodz. There he died of starvation in April 1942 Mit 58 Jahren wurde er 1941 zusammen mit seiner Ehefrau Hedwig Adler nach Lodz deportiert. Dort verhungerte Ludwig Berwald kurz nach dem Tod seiner Ehefrau am 20. April 1942.
