Seminar Numerical Methods for Earthquake and Tsunami Simulation

Topics

The seminar will deal with models, analytic solutions and numerical methods required for the simulation of earthquakes and tsunamis.

(Preliminary) topics are as follows:

  • Derivation and analytical solutions
    • Earthquakes and elastic waves
    • Nonlinear waves
    • Shallow Water Equations
  • Fluxes and Riemann-Solvers
    • Godunov/Roe solvers
    • F-wave solver
  • Model extensions
    • Source terms / well-balanced scheme
    • Full model
    • Inundation
  • Numerics
    • Discontinuous Galerkin 1
    • Discontinuous Galerkin 2
    • ADER Timestepping

Organisation

A first meeting to discuss the general organisation of the seminar will be on Tuesday, Feb 7, 11 c.t. in seminar room MI 02.07.023 (after the lecture in Fundamental Algorithms).

In that session, you should indicate whether you would like to start preparing for your seminar presentation during the spring holidays, already.
