Emil Gumbel
(* July 18th 1891, † September 10th 1966 in New York)
German mathematician and political writer.
Life
He graduated from the University of Munich shortly before the outbreak of the First World War.
Gumbel was a republican, socialist and pacifist. He was an political Author and had critical Oppinions to the justice system. His doings as a critics for nationalsocalism led to an disciplinary hearing 1924. He was freed of all charges a year later but a the universital society isolated him.
1930 he was promoted as a Professor, but the nationalsocalistic students started actions against him, and another disciplinary hearing started.
He was forbidden to teach anymore, also there was no direct connection to anitsemtism. He left Germany 1932.
