Seminar Organization

Every student participating in the seminar has to choose one of the offered topics, prepare a paper, and a give a presentation about it. In addition, every student has to write two short reviews of papers from other students. The paper has to be submitted first, followed by the reviews of two other papers and, finally, the presentation of the topic to the other seminar participants.

Seminar Topics

The seminar covers topics related to the simulation of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. It does not claim or even try to cover the full range of available topics in that field, but orients on current research topics and available expertise of the people giving the seminar. The topics are (assigned ones are marked with "ass.", available ones have no additional marks):

  • (ass.) Fluidmechanics basics
  • (ass.) Discretisation techniques for fluid equations
  • (ass.) Structural mechanics basics and discretisation with the finite element method
  • (ass.) Coupling of fluids and structures
  • (ass.) Coupling algorithms for the solution of partitioned FSI
  • (ass.) Coupling data mapping for non-matching grids
  • (ass.) Spacetrees for efficient data mapping and geometry queries
  • (ass.) Peano as fluid simulation tool
  • (ass.) Comsol as structure simulation tool
  • preCICE as coupling environment for partitioned FSI

Registering for the Seminar

If the seminar seems to be interesting for you and you decided to take it, think about two to three topics that you can imagine to dive into. Please note: the intention of the seminar is to learn something new, i.e., do not choose a topic which you are already very familiar with. Write an informal email to Bernhard Gatzhammer (gatzhamm@in.tum.de) containing your topic wishlist. The topics will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, as far as possible. If you have any questions about the topic or organization of the seminar, feel free to ask either one of the lecturers.
