Lukas Krenz: Cloud Simulation with the ExaHyPE-Engine

This thesis is concerned with the simulation of clouds with the ExaHyPE framework. ExaHyPE is an engine for hyperbolic PDEs that uses the ADER-DG scheme.
We use the compressible Navier-Stokes (NS) equations with heat conduction to describe the dynamics of clouds. Due to the diffusive components, the NS-Equations are not hyperbolic. We thus need to modify parts of the numerical scheme.

Andreas Reiser: Extending a CFD Lab Course by a preCICE Conjugate Heat Transfer Tutorial
This is a Master's Thesis submision talk advised by Benjamin Uekermann
This thesis presents the development of an educational concept in form of a lab course which can effectively convey the concept of multi-physics simulations and the usage of preCICE over the course of one semester. An existing CFD lab course is therefore adapted and extended to create a new variant of it that fits the objective. The new version utilizes the Boussinesq approximation as the heat transport model and OpenFOAM as the solid coupling partner. The final implementation is validated with two validation cases where the reference results are obtained using OpenFOAM for the fluid as well as the solid participant. The new concept is used to teach the CFD lab course in the summer semester of 2018 giving the opportunity to gather and discuss the students feedback and solutions. Based on this information the educational concept is evaluated and improvements for the future are proposed.
